Joint letter to the Prime Minister: The Impact of National Insurance Increases on Specialist Services - A Call for Immediate Action
22nd December 2024
Imkaan's Co-Director, Ghadah Alnasseri, alongside the CEO of Rape Crisis England & Wales (Ciara Bergman) and leaders from Victim Support, Welsh Women's Aid, and Women's Aid Federation England, has signed a joint letter to the Prime Minister, warning that without immediate additional support, specialist frontline VAWG services will be forced to cut staff, close waiting lists, and, in some cases, shut down entirely.
This comes as National Insurance increases and cuts to police and crime commissioner funding threaten the future of these vital services.
On December 22, 2024, Ghadah Alnasseri, Co-Director of Imkaan, joined leaders from Rape Crisis England & Wales, Victim Support, Welsh Women’s Aid, and Women’s Aid Federation England in sending a letter to the Prime Minister. The letter highlights how recent National Insurance increases and cuts to Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) funding are threatening the future of vital services for victims of domestic and sexual violence.
These changes could lead to redundancies, closed waiting lists, and even the shutdown of services that thousands of women and girls rely on. In their letter, the leaders urge the government to increase funding for specialist services, which are already struggling with growing demand and insufficient resources. Without additional support, the ability of these services to provide life-saving support will be severely impacted, undermining the government’s commitment to halving violence against women and girls.
