The Home Office’s Flee Fund and Future Fund: A Lifeline for Survivors of Domestic Abuse
2nd October 2024
The Flexible Fund (Flee Fund and Future Fund) is a vital initiative from the Home Office, designed to support survivors of domestic abuse in their journey towards safety and independence. Below, we have outlined the application process, eligibility criteria, and how both individuals and organisations can access essential resources to help those in need. Stand with survivors as they reclaim their power and redefine their futures.
Domestic abuse can leave survivors feeling isolated, unsure of their next steps, or as if there is no way out. Recognising this, the Home Office has launched the Flexible Fund (Flee Fund and Future Fund) in partnership with Women’s Aid, to provide vital financial support for those looking to escape dangerous situations and rebuild their lives. This fund is designed to offer immediate assistance as well as long-term support, empowering survivors to create safe and stable futures.
What are the Flee Fund and Future Fund?
The Flexible Fund consists of two distinct financial support streams:
Flee Fund: This provides survivors with a one-off payment of up to £500 to cover essential expenses as they seek safety. This can be critical in helping individuals secure immediate necessities such as food, clothing, and shelter during a time of crisis.
Future Fund: This fund offers survivors a further one-off payment of up to £2,500 to assist in establishing a stable, independent future. This can be used for housing costs, educational expenses, or other essential needs that help survivors regain their independence.
How to Apply for the Fund
Applications can be made by submitting an online form to Women’s Aid. Application forms will be open at the following times:
Flee Fund: Opens tomorrow, on October 3rd and will be accessible on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 am to 3 pm.
Future Fund: Opens today, on October 2nd, and will continue to be available on Wednesdays from 10 am to 3 pm.
Important Application Information
It is crucial to understand that applications for these funds must be made through a referral from a network of local frontline services in England and Wales. This includes helplines and caseworkers who specialise in understanding domestic abuse. The fund will then be delivered via the same referrer. This approach ensures that those seeking help receive the appropriate guidance and support.
Who can apply?
The Flee Fund and Future Fund are available for anyone aged 16 and over, regardless of gender or sexual orientation, and includes those with no recourse to public funds (NRPF). This broad eligibility reflects a commitment to support all individuals in need of assistance, particularly those from black and minoritised backgrounds who often encounter systemic barriers and discrimination when seeking support.
How to access this Support
If you or someone you know is a survivor of domestic abuse, it is essential to reach out to local services for support. These organisations can provide the necessary referrals to access the Flee and Future Fund.
If you are in a position to help others, please encourage those affected by domestic abuse to connect with local frontline services to ensure they receive the assistance they need. No one is alone in this journey; support is available.
The Flexible Fund (Flee Fund and Future Fund) is a vital resource aimed at empowering survivors of domestic abuse to reclaim their lives and build brighter futures.
