Resisting the push of ‘carceral feminism’ across the VAWG Sector

Imkaan are resisting the push of ‘carceral feminism’ across the VAWG Sector which is centralising a failing criminal justice system, the profiling, policing and criminalisation of Black and minoritised women and girls and the communities they are from. The New Deal for Immigration and proposed Police, Crime and Sentencing Bill and Borders Bill are institutionalising the abuse of Black and minoritised women and girls. The centralisation of movement building to deal with these issues remains a focus for Imkaan

“[Prison] relieves us of the responsibility of seriously engaging with the problems of our society, especially those produced by racism and, increasingly, global capitalism.” Angela Davis
